It all begins in 1960
In the spring of 1960, Denis Brault and Robert Martineau, two young Quebecers, opened their first furniture and appliance store on Sicard Street in Montreal's east end.
They were convinced that selling quality furniture and appliances at a reasonable price and offering a unique customer service experience would be the answer to the needs of a poorly serviced clientele, especially in Montreal's east end.
At the time, with the use of high tech and innovative advertising - television commercials, flyers and spokespeople such as Émile Genest and Réal Giguère - they quickly dominated the Quebec market. Brault & Martineau soon became a household name.
In keeping with its initial philosophy
Brault & Martineau’s success is due to the philosophy that’s been around since the beginning: respect of customers and offer of competitive prices without cutting back on quality.
Therefore, quality applies to everything in store: renowned brand names, the choice of product selection, training and expertise of the employees.
The quality of our personal says it all; customers don’t deal with salespeople, but experts in their field, able to satisfy all of their needs, answer all of their questions and assist them with their buying decisions. Ten megastores and six Sleep galleries
Today, Brault & Martineau operates ten megastores, six Sleep galleries as well as a 600,000-sq. ft. warehouse. It employs more than a thousand people, averages yearly sales of several hundreds of millions of dollars and contributes to the economic growth of the greater Montreal region.
A 5-year investment of $25 million
Over the last five years, Brault & Martineau has invested no less than $25 million in its network, thus reinforcing its experience and leadership position in the retail sector.
This investment primarily served to build new stores and renovate existing ones, implement a leading-edge computer system, expand the east-end warehouse and modernize its delivery service.
An innovative financing mode
Brault & Martineau was the first furniture company to offer free delivery and a deferred payment plan: “Buy now and pay only in one year with no deposit, no payment and no interest.*” These two policies have since become a part of business traditions for the direct benefit of consumers.

Respect for customers is very important. That’s why Brault & Martineau puts a lot of care into its customer service by following up well after customers have left the store. A department has been set up to make sure that merchandise has been properly delivered. Customer satisfaction is 365-day-a-year affair, no less. A whole team of employees ensure daily follow-up and go on-site to solve problems if needed. If furniture has been visibly damaged during delivery, an expert will be immediately on hand to repair it.

Strength in numbers ensures Brault & Martineau a colossal buying power that translates into huge savings for you. This important buying power benefits the many customers who make their way to one of our stores in St-Léonard, Pointe-aux-Trembles, Laval, Ste-Thérèse, Brossard, St-Hubert, LaSalle, Kirkland and Gatineau. There are also 6 Sleep galleries, in St-Hyacinthe, in St-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu, in Mascouche, in Granby, in St-Jerome and in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Brault & Martineau and its employees actively contribute to all kinds of fundraisers and recognize the important role that charitable organizations play with the less fortunate.
These beneficiary organizations include the Fondation Maman Dion, Fondation des Auberges du Cœur, Fondation du Maire de Montréal pour la jeunesse, Fondation Marie-Enfant du CHU Sainte-Justine, Tel-Jeunes and Fondation du CHUM.
Finally, since the past several years, Brault & Martineau is associated with the BMO Bank of Montreal Foundation as part of a vast fund-raising campaign for handicapped and underprivileged children. Participating in all of these different charities and aid agencies raises funds in excess of $1.5 million, solely within our network, thanks to direct corporate participation and the generosity of our clients and employees.
